If you are a person who is eligible for Texas WIC program (see eligibility requirements here) and want to become a WIC client then all you have to do is call 1 (800) 942-3678 Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm and someone will help you  obtain the address and telephone number of a WIC clinic near your home.

After you got the address or phone number call or go to the clinic to make an appointment

When you show up for an appointment make sure you bring with you documentation of your household’s source of income or wages. This is valid for all the members of the household.

Examples of documentation include:

  • paycheck stub
  • current tax return
  • some sort of letter from employer
  • Social Security check
  • child-support check
  • self-employed accounting records. 

If you or any other family member who is applying for WIC program are receiving Medicaid, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families or Food Stamps then you are automatically eligible(income wise), if you can bring acceptable proof of the participation in one of these programs. 

They also need proof of your current address so bring a documentation that can prove where you live, such as a utility bill or credit card bill. 

Make sure you have with you documentation of identification for each individual who is applying for WIC benefits and the adult responsible for the benefits.

Acceptable ID documents are:

  • birth certificate
  • driver’s license
  • immunization card
  • employee card with picture
  • school identification card with picture
  • Social Security card
  • hospital records 

During the appointment at the WIC clinic you will be health screened  which may include weight and height measurement, blood test to measure the iron concentration, questions regarding your medical and health history and some test to determine your nutritional risk 

When the appointment is over the applicant will receive counseling and will be referred to the appropriate health and human services. Furthermore, the WIC eligibility will be determined and if you turn out to be eligible then you will be provided with food benefits.
